Schwarzwald Card  
Mahlberg - a small peaceful town situated in the part of Germany neighbouring on France and Switzerland - lying in the Rhine river valley - on the edge of the Black Forest.
There are lots of things to see, both in Mahlberg's immediate vicinity and within an acceptable distance.
We have listed here a small selection of the many possibilities for excursions in this area.

Taubergiessen

A nature paradise - Taubergießen 10 km

A nature preservation area in the partly swamp forests of the old Rhine - lying between Rheinhausen und Schwanau.
The "Taubergießen" is one of the last nature paradises in Germany. Countless animals and plants in danger of extinction have found a home here. This is a place which will be preserved for the benefit of man, flora and fauna.
Of particular interest are the organised small boat trips through the area.

Black Forest life of yesterday    The impressive Black Forest farmhouses in the Gutach open-air museum impart a vivid impression of life and work in the Black Forest during the past centuries. Saw and corn mill, hammer-smithy, herb and cottage garden bring a feeling of living a visible cultural history. Fringe events offer the opportunity to "join in".

Welcome to the city of Europe    From the middle-ages old town with its impressive cathedral to "Petite France" at the side ofthe river Ill, Straßburg's charm and historical beauty brings every visitor under its spell. Straßburg ist the modern capital of Europe.  Here contemporary architecture combines with extensive shopping possibilities, which fulfill all wishes in the direction of fashion, furnishing and gastronomy.  A boat trip on the Ill and a visit to the cathedral are particularly recommended.
Freiburg

Freiburg 40 km

The capital of the Black Forest    The university town of Freiburg with its spacious pedestrian area is an invitation to relaxed shopping or just passing the time away. The historical old-town with its cathedral is laced with 7 kilometers of street drainage streams, which bring a particular flair to this beautiful town. The cathedral is very much worth a visit, as also are the old town-hall, the Augustine museum and the "Wentzingerhaus". Directly behind Freiburg lies the "Schauinsland" - a small mountain with a wonderfull view. As an alternative to the road there is a cable car to travel to the top.

Black Forest railway    Sightseeing in comfort

The Black Forest railway line was built from 1863 to 1873 between Offenburg and Lake Constance. On the stretch between Hornberg and St. Georgen the line passes through 36 tunnels. A round trip is possible, passing through the "Höllental" (hell valley) running from Freiburg to the Titisee. A "Baden-Württemberg" day ticket enables up to 5 persons to go sightseeing the whole day on one ticket.
Hochstraße

Black Forest high road    Hills and forest - nature pure


This attractive stretch of road between Baden-Baden and Freudenstadt is one of Germany's most beautiful panaramic roads. It passes through the nature conservation area Ruhestein. Particularly interesting are the Mummelsee and the walking/ski area around the Kniebis.
